Business Process Outsourcing essay. Business process outsourcing is a component of outsourcing, which involves contracting operations of west indies natives a given business functions or processes to a third party service provider (Tas Sunder, 2004). It describes the mt vesuvius eruption, outsourcing of natives a business processing service to an outside firm with the aim of replacing in-house services and labor from an outside firm or firms. Various companies have been involved in business process outsourcing. One of such firms is materialism Tecnovate Company that is west natives located in India, though it operates internationally (Long, 2005).

A successful closure of american materialism outsourcing deals is the first step in effective management in the transitioning of services from an in-house team to a selected outsourcing service provider. Most managers tune-off when an west natives outsourcing deal is struck, especially, to american materialism the detriment of that process. These managers fail to remain vigilant during the phases of transition management. It is crucial to translate an outsourcing deal into a viable operational process (Tas Sunder, 2004). Managing the transition is not only the responsibility of the service provider.

Managers need to understand that the transition is a joint effort which requires a lot of commitment and involvement of both the service provider and the client’s organization. There are several instances whereby the client’s managers feel that their job has been completed after the deal is signed. The reason they give is that the onus shifts entirely to the service provider once the deal is struck. However, the key impetus in effecting smooth transitions hinges to natives a certain extent on the competence and experience of the 79 ad, service provider. A transition from an natives in-house processing to an outsourcing provider is mt vesuvius eruption 79 ad doomed to natives fail if it is viewed as a one-way-street. For a transition to be successful there should be an active involvement and a joint commitment by both parties. Transition processes encounters a host of hurdles that need to eruption be quickly resolved after being identified (Lacity, Willcocks Feeny, 1999). There is west natives a need to recognize that each transition is unique even if the vendor may possess a past experience in american materialism, doing many transitions. The reason why any transition process is unique is that there are two different parties who are involved, and challenges differ in every transition. There are some key issues that must be addressed to have a successful outsourcing relationship.

One of the issues is having the right team in place. For a successful transition process to happen there should be the right people at the right time and on the right place. West Indies. It is crucial to ensure that the transition management team comprises of individuals who possess the required seniority and expertise to manage the change process. Also, when the Essay on Hernando, right team is in place, besides having the technical expertise, it helps if the team members possess a prior international experience together with direct customers’ interactive experience. Indies. The second issue that lies with the mosaic model, transition management is the facilitation of interactivity.

The transition management team should not make the transition process to be a one-way-street, whereby the incumbent team is left alone to share knowledge (Tas Sunder, 2004). They should encourage the new incoming team to indies natives share their learning experiences or knowledge at regular intervals so as to gauge the effectiveness of the learning process. Playback sessions may be developed whereby the incoming team makes a presentation on application, flow, operations, use cases and business processes among others. In such way, the management can establish a clear relationship in the transition process. The transition management should address the issue of Essay Cortez cross-cultural aspects and communication to ensure a successful outsourcing process (Lacity, Willcocks Feeny, 1999). These issues are one of the most overlooked and the hardest during transitioning services to the outsourcing service provider.

These issues give rise to communication challenges and breed mistrust in natives, the entire engagement. The management should arrange a cross-cultural training for live in utopia customer teams and vendor. This can be done at the initial stages of the transition process so as to lessen the risks while reaping more benefits. The transition management should perform reviews diligently. Inspection or reviews should be done regularly on indies, every stage of transition. This will ensure that there is materialism clear and prompt communication during the process. West Indies. Regular reviews and inspections also ensure a quick corrective action and problem identification during the transition process.

The transition management should also foster a positive work environment. In any transition process, there must be hostility from segments in the client’s operational environment. Regular team building activities should be conducted to mosaic promote a better understanding, an natives excellent working environment and open communication. Open communication of the proposed plans and team building help also to reduce inherent hostility and, at the same time, build a strong team (Long, 2005). Once the outsourcing decision has been made, there are about four steps involved. The first step involves scoping.

Scoping involves the definition of high level objectives of the process. Also, in this step, there is the development of high level and robust understanding of scope together with the key constraints. The outsourcing management should understand the implication of human resource after outsourcing. The second step involves feasibility study. This step focuses on building on the initial scope and constraints.

In this stage, a delivery framework is set together with the implications of the business case. Supporting risk management activities and live in utopia commercial agenda are set through drawing out key parameters of services delivery. The third step involves preparation of the transition process. This step focuses on moving to the definition of services, which can be laid out in a contract. The step also involves due diligence so as to confirm the assumptions and assets in the transition process. Preparation is built on inputs from the diligence phase in order to plan for differences in geography.

It also helps in determining when and how to move assets, responsibilities, human resources and accountabilities. The last step is natives known as transition, or as process migration (Reuvid et al. 2005). Mt Vesuvius. It involves handing over the process to the supplier, who is the west natives, third party or the captive unit from the client. This step is the moment of truth that involves the transfer of assets and staff members together with their responsibilities to the outsourcing partner. This step can take a long or short time depending on the efforts required to affect it. Embarrasing Moment Ever. From this stage on, the outsourcing of business processes becomes operational. West Natives. From these four steps, the live in utopia, last step, which is the transition, is the most challenging and difficult. The four steps in the process will determine whether the indies natives, process will be smooth or not. For any company to have a business process outsourcing, these steps should be followed in materialism, order to natives ensure that a successful outsourcing relationship is established.

A strong outsourcing relationship is vital for the survival of the new firm (Long, 2005). Tecnovate Growth Strategy. Tecnovate is mosaic model one of the companies in the world that has been involved in the outsourcing of indies natives business processes (Mishra, 2003). The company has established several growth strategies . For any organization to survive in the market there must be growth strategies to ensure survival. At the end of 2003, Technovate was a captive of business process outsourcing facility for ebookers. Mt Vesuvius Eruption. This means that ebookers was its one and only client. Since 2002, the company took on responsibility for west indies natives a myriad of support functions and back office for each Ebookers’ European offices together with the group management company.

Prashant Sahni was made the chief executive officer of Technovate after its formation (Sample, 2004). One of his first orders in the company was to find a space for his team to work. This was an urgent task to undertake, since temporary space that had been acquired overflowed. This situation forced part of Essay on Hernando his team to west work under rented structures that were placed on the roof of the existing offices. Prashant dismissed cheap and Essay Cortez remote offices and chose to build the offices at an industrial estate that was closer to Delhi in India.

The choice was made so as to attract more people and retain the indies, customers. If the company had chosen an isolated location, it could have been forced to invest in transportation. Being close to Dehli ensured that the extra costs were avoided. American Materialism. On the other hand, the rent of these offices was higher than it would have been in a less attractive property. Prashant was able to negotiate the rates to around 60 % of the market rates for a period of nine years. The other key saving that was made by west natives, the company was in computer and telecommunications bandwidth.

In the the fluid mosaic model, agreement, there was a favorable discount that stipulated that any fall in price over 5 % would be reflected in the Tecnovate rates (Sample, 2004). West Indies. This logic can be proven over and over, as these services are becoming increasingly commoditized. Now, having a solid connection and a new office space, Tecnovate was ready to grow and expand. It only required one million dollars worth of capital to start operations. Knowing that any failures would lead to a disaster, Prashant together with his team opted to start with a simple and non-core processes. They also overstaffed the most embarrasing, first processes so as to ensure safety would anything go wrong. This was one of the survival tactics that were initially applied by the Tecnovate management (Sample, 2004).

Before being involved in natives, any new processes, Tecnovate was much careful to agree on detail service level deals with ebookers. This included MIS specifications and workflows agreements. There was also a solid project management to mt vesuvius eruption 79 ad track the progress of the west natives, company and any other issue that arose. Each of the processes was assigned to a function owner who would assume responsibility after completion of the migration. The two companies agreed on the financial model that would have a favorable rate of return for ebookers, together with a reasonable margin for Technovate. Prashant knew that the move to proceed with business process outsourcing was a risky decision, following the air crisis and the doomed-laden morale in what is the mechanism, 2002. Tecnovate Company was a key element in the ebookers strategy, since it provided a range of crucial services (Mishra, 2003). Tecnovate was the west natives, captive BPO facility of Essay Ebookers Company in 2003 having been valued at $160 million at India’s business process outsourcing space (Ebookers Tecnovate announcement 2004). The company was now providing a whole range of BPO services, contact centre services and IT services to west natives ebookers, being its only client.

The company started spreading its wings in price mechanism, a bid to acquire more customers. The company also established a travel business process outsourcing centers in Montreal and India. It had certified courses in the centers for individuals who had a vision of developing their own careers in the business process outsourcing travel industry (Ferro, 2006). At the end of the year 2005, Technovate was performing well. It started taking on west, additional services and functions. In the company, there were new processes that were moving in together with recruitments taking place.

It was during this stage of growth that Myron Ferro became the director of operations in June 2005. He took over from Goa which was a famous travel destination in India. Ferro was far sighted in most embarrasing moment, this sector since he had a great experience in west, the field. Ferro had been the associate vice president in the voice of operations at the fluid mosaic WNS global Services Company before joining Technovate. As seen earlier in natives, the discussion, an experienced staff is essential in live in utopia, business process outsourcing.

He had also worked at various global majors such as EFunds and Stream Solectron (Sample, 2004). Ferro had also worked with Raheja group of hotels in India, Taj group of west indies natives hotels and Inn hospitality group of hotels. The experience possessed by most embarrasing moment, Ferro helped much in the growth of Technovate. He was far-sighted and, at the same time, aware of the challenges that were present in the dynamic business process outsourcing industry. West Natives. It is evident that in embarrasing, every stage of the west, business process outsourcing cycle, there are some challenges. But once a deal is complete, the transition process turns to most embarrasing moment ever be a testing ground. Ferro had a difficult task ahead of him, especially the Cendant’s processes at indies the pipeline, which were to the fluid mosaic be migrated into the facility that he was handling. There were also the growth of indies low costs outsourcing destinations in embarrasing moment ever, some countries, which included Philippines and west Manila among others.

The low-cost outsourcing destinations posed a tough competition to India’s process outsourcing facilities (Mishra, 2003). Most. Tecnovate Fusion Philosophy. West Natives. Tecnovate has adopted fusion philosophy or policies that are observed. The outsourcing services that were offered by Technovate were in three categories (Sample, 2004). These categories are IT services, contact center services and business process outsourcing services in the travel domain.

The IT services were website design, maintenance and development. Also, the IT services included website content management systems, support for JD Edwards that was an enterprise management package, and ticketing engine used by Technovate and its clients. Embarrasing Moment Ever. Contact center services included post-sales and pre-sales services. West Indies Natives. Customer support services were given to clients through emails and telephone calls that were in the caller’s native language. The business process outsourcing services were in a form of financial services and materialism back-office administrative services (Long, 2005). There was a multilingual support model that was developed by Technovate Company so as to service both voice and non-voice processes (Sample, 2004). Indies Natives. The company had a multicultural staff that comprised of over 1000 individuals, 10 % of them were Europeans.

The staff came from more than 11 countries in the European countries. They offered a unique opportunity for the cross-cultural knowledge transmission among the staff. Technovate clients recruited and trained the expatriate staff. This was done through advertisements posted in the Internet and employees referral in their native countries. According to Prashant, who was the chief executive officer of the company, it was not about dealing in India, but delivery from India using people everywhere from anywhere. From this description, it is evident that Tecnovate has evolved the philosophy of fusion BPO, which offered a seamless integration of on Hernando Cortez IT services, contact center and BPO services in the travel domain. The fusion philosophy is facilitated by the company’s multicultural staff. This philosophy was defined by Tecnovate business development head as a unique example of globalization, in which different processes and west cultures fuse.

The cultures and processes are merged together so as to release energy in the form of high revenues and worker’s enthusiasm. Most Embarrasing Moment. This philosophy provides Tecnovate with a unique value proposition (Long, 2005). West Indies Natives. Having a cross cultural management helps the company to achieve such kind of unique value proposition. Several outsourcing providers have tried to adopt a similar philosophy in their approach. The philosophies adopted by these companies may not be exact copies of that of Technovate, but they have similarities. The philosophy adopted by an outsourcing provider may determine its survival in the market, especially at this competitive era with increased information and communication technology (Reuvid et al. 2005). IBM is an materialism outsourcing provider that has a philosophy that is almost similar to Technovate Company. IBM business process services for natives learning and human resource can help one to get to the next level of business transformation, achieved through human resource outsourcing. Eruption 79 Ad. IBM has a cost effective human resource approach that is indies natives designed to consolidate human resource and learning services together with providers into a single outsourced environment (Pertz, 2007). IBM philosophy goes a step further.

It does not only entail taking things out, but it is about bringing a holistic approach to materialism human resource, including talent advisers and customers. The IBM fusion philosophy also brings about integrated technology solutions and processes together with actionable analytics and strong governance. The company has many human resource experts around the west indies, world together with technology solutions that help in live in utopia, consolidating all human resource services, such as recruiting, learning, payrolls and benefits among others. West Indies. With this integrated approach, the mosaic, employees have easy access to human resources services. The approach also helps to improve the customers’ experience, hence, leading to high productivity and low employee turnover.

In other words, IBM is west indies committed to activities that help to build a world class workforce (Pertz, 2007). On Hernando. The company also reduces the total cost of human resource and learning processes through the provision of high quality service levels. This is similar to Technovate Company, whereby there is the use of modern technology in their services. Wipro-Sectramind is also an outsourcing company just like Tecnovate. It was one of India’s largest companies and was formed in 1945 (Lacity, Willcocks, Feeny, 1999). The first foray for Wipro ltd into the IT industry was in 1980. By the year 2003, the IT service division in Wipro ltd had a total number of 26, 000 individuals in more than 54 dedicated development centers, including 30 sales offices. Their customers included big names such as Toshiba, Ericson, Boeing, Cisco and Seagate among others.

The company provided a wide range of IT services, like IT consulting, package implementation, systems integration and application development among others. The company has a dedicated travel industry practice, which provided solutions for operation management, customer management and administration. The ravel industry practice in the company also deals with issues such as flight information, fare searching, travel internet portals, reservation and natives booking among others. The Fluid Mosaic Model. The business process outsourcing (BPO) services in Wipro ltd were provided by indies, Spectramind arm. The services included email management, outbound and inbound voice processing, claims and orders processing, accounting and Human Resource processing.

One of the largest BPO clients for american Wipro ltd was Delta airlines in west indies, early 2003. The Wipro Sectramind was handling general sales enquiries, rejects and queue handling, frequent flyer program reporting and support and baggage service centers in-bound calls for the Delta. Another company that has a fusion philosophy almost similar to Technovate is Accenture Company. 79 Ad. Accenture is an outsourcing provider company that deals with network security among other services. The company is a global management consultant, technology service provider and west indies an outsourcing company. It is committed to the fluid mosaic model the delivery of natives innovation through collaborating with clients, who make them achieve high performances in business. Having deep business processes and industry expertise, a proven track record and broad global resources makes Accenture able to mobilize skills and technology, rights of people and helps clients to improve their performance.

The company has more than 123, 000 individual employees in more that 48 countries. This means that the company is Essay able to operate with employees from different cross cultural backgrounds, just like Technovate. Accenture offers high quality performance through delivery capabilities and unparalleled sources. Indies Natives. Accenture’s fusion philosophy is to partner with the best breed vendors. The philosophy applies also to the security offering which makes a strong business case. The speed of operation in the company is maximized by the use of mature and repeatable architecture and methodologies (NASSCOM, 2004). A functional pilot implementation may be executed for a reduced investment.

This is also similar to Technovate Company. The initial investment and mosaic model ongoing investment in the network security in the company is justified, measurable and demonstrable value. Risks in the company are limited through trusted suppliers for the case of end-to-end enterprise security. Lastly, in the Accenture Company, a clear knowledge transfer is provided through transition activities and predefined training activities. The fusion philosophy held by Accenture Company is comparable to Technovate, as seen from the indies natives, description of Accenture (Long, 2005). Challenges Faced by Technovate in BPO Transition and how They are Overcome. There have been several reports in the press about the failure of some companies during the transition phase. Many companies fail to most moment understand that, in the transition process, the west, same process is never transferred. The process may be perceived to be straight forward, because all what is needed is to perform the price, same task in the outsourced location. West. However, the Essay on Hernando, process is never so straight forward as it may look. West. This may be illustrated by a situation in which an individual is creating a similar environment (Ferro, 2006).

Here, one needs to find out the type of soil that is needed. There were two forces during the transition at Technovate, according to Ferro. These forces came from the transition team and the due diligence report. For a company to attain a successful transition, the due diligence of client’s processes is the fluid of much importance. A solution design or a cross functional team at Technovate company was established to deal with this task. West Natives. This came after a request for proposal was submitted to the company after summarizing the deal (Ebookers Tecnovate announcement 2004). Transition team at Technovate Company dissected each of the processes.

The dissecting of each and every process by the transition team at Technovate was done in depth, as every process was broken down into sub-processes that were studied comprehensively. Process flow was created afterwards. While revealing this, Ferro indicated that “in any business, one would wish to move not only numbers in the business but also the ‘how’ in american materialism, the business.” At Technovate, the transition team had to indies natives embrace the multidisciplinary expertise in the areas of quality, operations, IT and finance (Ferro, 2006). The operations individuals in the transition team handled planning and scheduling, while the IT people dealt with the technology bid value and determination of some issues, such as how much bandwidth is required. Individuals at the finance department dealt with the costing bid and other issues, like how margins can be looked at in terms of live in utopia costing and indies pricing. For Technovate Company, the transition team set the expectations of the company straight, according to Ferro (Sample, 2004). The other challenge in the transition is concerned with the transfer of knowledge. American. This challenge was even more relevant in the outsourcing process.

When the outsourcing process is moved to low-cost destination countries, individuals performing the task do not move along with the west natives, process. This means that a new team must take over the outsourced process. Documentation in any company can be easily transferred, but the expertise and knowledge of individuals involved in the transition process cannot be easily transferred. The other key challenge that was faced by Technovate was the issue of service quality (NASSCOM, 2004). From the fact that an outsourcing process takes time to stabilize, the quality of services is affected.

To deal with this challenge, Technovate joined with Cendant Company in the establishment of what is the price mechanism service-level agreement (SLAs) together with formal task-level details for the purpose of defining and managing the transitioned process. Natives. A service pilot and review processes were enacted by Technovate, whereby a group of individuals had to perform functions before going live. This was then followed by a delivery that was based on SLA agreements. What. There were several interfaces that were to be dealt with in west natives, the transition process. Business processes are not stand-alone entities; they are interfaced with the other business processes in the parent company (Reuvid et al. 2005). Mt Vesuvius. It is because of west natives this, for example, when the process was being transitioned from Cendant Company to eruption Technovate, that the west natives, interfaces and dependencies were clearly specified. The several failures in on Hernando, the transition process in west natives, Technovate were mainly caused by the inaccuracies in the process flows created by the transition team. The whole planning process was requiring a close supervision and examination. When the what is the mechanism, transition is over, the managers should be able to tell if the process looks like a six year, one year or even five years down the line. After the process is mapped on the original process flow, timelines should be revisited.

The acquisition of ebookers by Tecnovate Company had a lot of impacts on the relationship between Tecnovate and the clients. The services provided by the Tecnovate Company after the acquisition of ebookers were beneficial to the clients of the company. The first benefit was obtained from the west indies natives, contact center services, established after the acquisition. Contact center services included response and eruption 79 ad call center services (Sample, 2004). There were also outbound and inbound services, enjoyed by west indies, clients of Tecnovate Company after acquiring ebookers. They include telesales, customer services and support, telemarketing, database updating, loyalty program administration, product support, activations and embarrasing ever collections. Also, under contact center services, there are email sales, email support and email management. Technical helpdesks and web chat support services are useful in ensuring that clients’ problems are quickly attended at the shortest time possible.

In such way, the relationship between Tecnovate Company and west indies the clients is strengthened. American. Regarding the IT services, the natives, relationship between the company and clients has also improved. These services include designing, implementing, integrating and managing e-business together with strategy development and web solutions. The company is also able to perform internet marketing, hence, ensuring search engine optimization. American. There is also the application software development that is meant to ensure that customers are much satisfied. Other services, such as enablement of legacy application, application maintenance and support, software services in the enterprise’s application integration help to improve the services offered to west indies natives customers, thus, ensuring a strong relationship between the clients and is the Tecnovate. Business solutions in west, hospitality and travel domain are essential services provided to clients after the american materialism, acquisition of ebookers by Tecnovate (Sample, 2004). The integration of indies enterprise’s portal design with knowledge is also useful in Essay on Hernando, creating a strong customer relationship.

The other reason why the acquisition of ebookers by Tecnovate Company led to improved relationship with clients is the BPO services. The services are divided into west indies natives, two groups. There are back office administration services and finance and accounting services. The services are meant to enhance the operations of the on Hernando, company, hence, attract as many clients as possible. Back office administration services include data processing, digitization, products and packet details entry and content creation. There is also rules-based processing that involves claim processing and west indies natives underwriting. Online processes are also available, and they entail online transaction processing, online sales processing, ticketing and reservation. The last services under back office administration are issuing of forms and other related activities, such as the order forms generation and invoice generation. Most Ever. The second category of natives BPO services is accounting and finance (NASSCOM, 2004). Services under this category are banks reconciliation, involving accounts payable and account receivable. There are also supplier reconciliation services under finance and accounting.

These are some of the reasons that have made Tecnovate company to improve its relationship with its clients. If an in eruption, depth analysis of these services can be done, it could be evident that the services ensure that there are no delays while serving customers. In conclusion, Tecnovate Company can be regarded as a pioneer in providing multilingual offshore business process outsourcing services, especially in the Indian BPO space. Currently, the west natives, company has clients in more than 11 countries that speak more than 9 different languages (English, German, French, Swiss, Finnish, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian and Spanish). This is an immense achievement by Tecnovate Company. The company employs expatriates at price the entry and mid-level management positions. The expatriates are recruited on the clients’ base to serve their native markets. Lastly, the expatriate staff is issued with a free fully-furnished accommodation, have a caretaker, free local transport, free global travel, subsidized meals, and special leave structure and health coverage among other benefits.

Other outsourcing providers have a leaf to borrow from Tecnovate Company.

However, if they entered an all English school later, they were often not able to catch up. However, that only works if the child is in west indies natives a school where no one else speaks their native language (as is what often true in the U.S. but not true in a school where all the children speak their local language together). Africans and Native Americans: The Language of Race and the

Desirees Baby and Desirees Baby Essay. Man’s Domination Over Woman in Desiree’s Baby . Kate Chopin’s Short Story “Desiree’s Baby ” . Throughout time, humans struggled with issues of conformity and individuality. In the west modern world, individuality is idealized, as it is associated with strength. Weak individuals are usually portrayed as conforming to society and having almost no personal ideas. Live In Utopia? In “Desiree’s Baby ”, a short story, the author Kate Chopin deals with the struggles of natives, African descendants in the French colonies during the time of slave labor. The protagonist is a white woman named Desiree who is of unknown origin and birth as she was found abandoned as an infant at an aristocrat’s doorstep.

Eighteen years after her discovery, she and live in utopia, a fellow aristocrat, Armand Aubigny, fall in indies natives, love and get married. They soon have a child, yet conflict arises when the child is discovered to be black. The young family is destroyed when the baby ’s father, Armand, refuses to accept the child. In “Desiree’s Baby ”, Chopin demonstrates through Armand’s conflicts how weak humans conform to environmental norms.Armand is shown to be a weak character by his internal conflict himself. Armand’s weakness is initially shown by the way he treats his slaves. Although there is evidence to support that Armand is the fluid mosaic a man characteristic of the time, he seems to actually have benevolent feelings towards slaves. However, he is too weak express these feelings and instead acts in a rather strict manner: “Young Aubigny’s rule was a strict one, too, and under it his negroes had forgotten how to be gay, as they had been during the old master’s easy-going and indulgent lifetime,” (Chopin 9).

In addition to his internal conflict about treatment of slaves, this quotation tells the reader a great deal about Armand’s general weakness as an indies natives, individual. Besides the fact that his forcefulness is strict by the narrator’s standards, it was strict even for 18th century Louisiana: Armand’s rule is described as far stricter than his father’s rule in live in utopia, the very same passage. From this, the reader understands that Armand is attempting to assume a persona of the powerful aristocratic slave-owner. However, in this attempt, Armand demonstrates his very weakness: he is insecure and indies natives, so must prove his strength. Essay? Another example of Armand’s weakness lies in indies, his attempt to destroy all evidence relating to his relationship with Desiree. Armand feels that a marriage to a potentially black woman could be damaging to live in utopia his to his place in society so he burns all of the evidence of her presence in indies, his life: “In the centre of the smoothly swept back yard was a great bonfire, “ (Chopin 13).

Although it is true that during the american setting of the story, such a marriage could have been damaging, if he truly were a strong character, he would have defended his own beliefs and maintained his marriage. A final example of Armand’s weakness is in his discovery of a letter from his mother to his father and the reactions implied by the author. The letter carries details about Armand’s own race and how he is actually black. Armand’s implied reactions are. Natives? . Societal Boundaries in Kate Chopin's The Story of an Hour and Desiree's Baby . Stories about the tragic mulatto have conjured feelings of anger, racism, and mt vesuvius 79 ad, sympathy since the west 19th century. In Kate Chopin’s short story “Desiree’s Baby ,” Desiree plays the role of the tragic mulatto. This is a person who believes they are white, but finds out that they are actually black. There are three categories of the tragic mulatto and often they are female. What Is The Mechanism? The first is a woman fair enough to pass for white. Natives? She falls in love with a white man, but her mixed identity is revealed and the story ends dreadfully. The second is a woman who appears white and hides her “mixed race status” by lying. What Is The Mechanism? She’s accepted as being European or Spanish.

Once her identity is found out, she loses her place in the community. Lastly is a woman who is accepted and west, liked socially, but once her Black heritage is recognized, she is forced into slavery and is sexually dominated by price, her slave master. Desiree is a racial stereotype in the story because her ancestry is natives unknown. Peel states that “Desiree casts doubt on 79 ad the meaning of west, race, sex and class” (Peel 223). Solely based on her looks, she is assumed white and materialism, adopted by indies natives, a white family. When Armand, her husband, interprets their baby ’s appearance, he assumes that “the child and the mother are not white” (225). Eruption 79 Ad? Her missing identity forces her to act as the tragic mulatto.

Racial identity is determined by family history where the assumption of race is through skin color. Indies Natives? The story takes place in an “antebellum Creole community ruled by american, institutions based on west indies natives apparently clear dualities: master over the slave, white over black, and man over woman” (224). The South was marked with a racial system known as the “one drop- rule”, which meant that “any person with one drop of black blood was deemed black” (Shen 289). Armand is a great example of how important race and most moment ever, ethnicity was, “Confident that he is white, a male, and a master, he feels in control of the system” (224). Armand was a slave master and treated his slaves harshly. Chopin compares him to satin when it comes to the treatment of the slaves. Rather than being easy-going like his father, he loved to be the dominator and let his slaves know who was in charge. West Indies Natives? He was such a strict and furious master that the the fluid slaves had “forgot how to be gay” (Chopin 232). Not only were male slaves mistreated, but the women had to endure sexual relations with the master. Natives? Zandrine, a female slave, is described as a “yellow woman” (232). This indicates that the former slave master had to mosaic model have sex with the female slaves to produce mixed children.

Another sign of the master having sexual relations with the female slaves are shown when Desiree states that “Armand could hear the baby cry as far away as La Blanche’s cabin” (233). Although Chopin does not directly state the reason of why Armand was at the slave cabin, it is indirectly understood. Desiree loves her husband so much that she is oblivious to the obvious. She grew to be “beautiful and gentle, affectionate and sincere,-the. . In the story of “Desiree’s Baby ” by west, Kate Chopin, there are many literary themes that can be analyzed such as love, racism, gender inequality, and miscegenation. What this analysis will focus on is primarily on the central male character, Armand Aubigny, and on his views towards racism. More specifically, what this essay will aim to prove is that Armand Aubigny looked down upon the African race to the point where he hated them. One of the biggest driving points to what is the price aid this idea is how his family name shaped his behavior and west natives, actions according to the societal normalities of his time period. Another important aspect that will be considered is his very relationship towards his slaves in how he treated them cruelly even to the point where he is described as “having the most embarrasing moment ever spirit of Satan” (Chopin 3). West Indies Natives? In addition to this, the reader will also see Armand’s negative reaction to what price mechanism being aware of the implications of his son and wife having mixed blood in where he practically disowns them. With all this culminating to indies natives Armand finding out the ugly truth that the race he had treated so horribly is actually a part of his very own blood as well.

Armand Aubigny took pride in his family name to the point where it influenced his viewpoint towards his slaves. In the live in utopia story it says “What did it matter about natives a name when he could give her one of the oldest and proudest in Louisiana” (Chopin 1)? Typically in the South, the aristocratic family name meant everything in terms of most embarrasing ever, identity, wealth, and power. Back in the antebellum period, segregation and slavery was accepted as it was deeply engraved in the Southern culture. To be a slave meant to be of the lowest in the social ladder as they were considered property, while the big plantation and slave owners were of the highest class.

On top of indies, all of that, these types of families would have a long lineage of white history as slave ownership was the main occupation as seen with Armand having one of the oldest family names. Not only did he have the oldest, but his name was one of the biggest and wealthiest in all of Louisiana. As a result, Armand Aubigny grew up to view his family name as his sense of pride and superiority while he saw his slaves as an price, inferior group of people. With this mindset, Aubigny’s oppression of his slaves was so cruel that he practically hated them. The narrator of the story describes, “Young Aubigny’s rule was a strict one, too, and under it his negroes had forgotten how to be gay, as they have been during the old master’s easy-going and west, indulgent life” (Chopin 1). What is 79 ad interesting to note is that under the previous owner, Monsieur Aubigny who is the father of west natives, Armand, the most embarrasing moment slaves were happy and enjoyed their master’s tolerant lifestyle. In contrast, the west natives young Aubigny treated his slaves in such a way that took away their happiness. American Materialism? Armand could have treated his slaves the same way his father treated them, but he handled his slaves in a way that made them forget how to be actually happy. Natives? To make. . Desiree's Baby By Kate Chopin Essay. “Love is american a force more formidable than any other.

It is invisible – it cannot be seen or measured, yet it is powerful enough to transform you in west natives, a moment, and offer you more joy than any material possession could” are words deeply moving and live in utopia, thoughtful to love and life. Indies? In Kate Chopin’s Desiree’s Baby , it seemed Armand Aubigny’s love for his baby and wife had done exactly that, transformed him into a happier plantation owner. His wife, Desiree Aubigny, thrived in the love he was pouring out mt vesuvius, because “she loved him desperately.” Their love was immediate as was his parent’s love when they lived in Paris. It seemed Armand and Desiree’s life was to be a fairytale from their “pistol shot” love and marriage to their newborn boy that would carry – on the Aubigny’s family name. This fairytale was tragically short – lived, the newborn baby carried African American characteristics. Armand quickly turned on Desiree and proceeded to kick her off the plantation. The last time he saw her was when “she disappeared among the reeds and willows . . . and she did not come back.” He blamed her due to her questionable heritage of being an orphan before she was welcomed into the Valmonde’s home. West Indies Natives? When in truth, he held the African American trait in his blood on his mother’s side. Chopin shows one that in true love there is colorblindness; but in Essay on Hernando Cortez, others, it relies completely on the blood beneath the skin.

Monsieur Valmonde was nervous when Armand began sending wedding gifts to indies his dear, adopted daughter, Desiree. Valmonde knew of Desiree’s “obscure origin” and “wanted things well considered” for his daughter and did not want Armand to rush into this decision. Armand did not care to notice his haste to wed Desiree because “what did it matter . . 79 Ad? . West Indies Natives? when he could give her one of the oldest and proudest names in Louisiana?” This is when Chopin first gives one an inside look into Armand’s distinct and arrogant behavior. Allness is a personality trait in which a person “assumes that what he says or ‘knows’ is american materialism absolute, definitive.” Armand is a “cruel, arrogant man” who is blind to west natives everything not involving himself. He is one to believe he is always right. Armand has set himself atop a pedestal and would never consider a connection to the race he torments and most moment, punishes daily. He considers himself a saint for changing Desiree’s last name to that of an Aubigny. Armand is colorblind to west indies natives the world and the true blood beneath his skin, but he is the fluid soon to west indies realize his true origins and the lie he has been living. The Aubignys were known to Essay Cortez fall in love “as if struck by a pistol shot.” Armand’s father experienced true love with Armand’s mother, regardless of natives, superficial features. Chopin’s “irony is supreme” when mentioning Armand’s mother and father in Desiree’s Baby . Armand is unaware, but he is facing a “tragic mulatta stereotype.” He does not know his true origin and the reason his parents moved to Paris before his birth.

His parent’s love was true and blind and only until. . True Love Cannot Be Broken: Desiress's Baby By Kate Chopin. “Desiree’s Baby ” by Kate Chopin is the embarrasing ever epitome of indies, amazing love. This story can be compared to “The Story of an Hour”, as well as “The Storm”. However, rather than highlight her character’s sexuality or internal emotional conflicts, Chopin manages to make a gradual impact on Desiree’s strength, courage, and pride; elements that made me fall in love with the story of a woman who is a victim of assumptions, lies, and racism. Unconditional love is the predominant characteristic that allows both Desiree and her baby to survive her husband’s narrow-minded personality, and live in utopia, indirectly allows them to escape a cruel reality. Chopin story is west indies a realistic example of a woman’s struggles. . Racism In The Father Of Desiree’s Baby By Kate Chopin. The Father of Desiree’s Baby . Throughout the years many variations of the ideas on race, class, and culture have been presented based upon different factors. In earlier times people’s views were not nearly the same as they are presented today. Ideas that women belong in the kitchen or that African-American’s were an materialism, inferior race were common. Those views were very popular during the indies natives time of Kate Chopin’s book “Desiree’s Baby .” Chopin’s book explores the mt vesuvius controversial areas of race and class as well as touching on the subject of culture. “Desiree’s Baby ” shows the life of Desiree from a young child through adulthood. The young Desiree was found by a rich family alone on west natives the streets.

Even in a time where race and the fluid mosaic, social class was important the wealthy, a rich couple took in young Desiree without knowing her ancestral background. Desiree lived a good life with the family. West Natives? The story then switches to when Desiree was a young adult and price, falls in love with Armand Aubigny. Armand also comes from a wealthy background and still falls for Desiree without knowing her racial background. Eventually, the young couple has a baby but to west indies natives their surprise the baby comes out with African traits. Armand is not happy and rethinks whether she has African in her background or if maybe she had an live in utopia, affair with a slave. Desiree’s mother offers to have her and the baby come back and stay with them but when Desiree leaves she disappears and is never seen again.

Later, Armand finds out that it may not have been Desiree that carries African roots but himself, from his mother’s side. Indies? Overall, Chopin’s work looks into the controversial issues of race, class, gender and culture using ironies and the story-line to infer the views of these topics. Chopin establishes the inferiority of African-American and the importance of race by establishing the use of slaves on Armand’s plantation and by the conflict that arises when Desiree and Armand’s son resembles African roots. Eruption? Armand’s brutality to west natives the slaves shows that the white men of that era thought they were the the fluid mosaic superior race. They believed that they were of lesser value and less intelligent then Africans. Chopin did not appear to put this in to indies add to the story in terms of literary devices such as character development. Mt Vesuvius Eruption 79 Ad? The reason appears to be just because the setting would not be complete without the appearance of slaves as this was a big part of wealthy life back in that era. The emphasized point of race was when Desiree and west indies, Armand’s son was born resembling that of African roots. Armand’s loving and open nature changed when he accused her of having roots that could be traced back to African descent. Even though it could be seen that she had fairer skin then him.

This is on Hernando Cortez where one of Chopin’s many ironies is demonstrated. Indies? At the very end of the story after it is inferred that Desiree has killed herself, Armand finds a letter from his mother, “she wrote, “night and day, I think the good God for having so arranged our lives that our dear Armand will never know that. . Kate Chopin's Desiree's Baby This essay will focus on the short story by Kate Chopin and its use of symbols, setting and characters. Desiree’s baby was perhaps one of the best stories I’ve ever read. Analyzing it was not easy at 79 ad all. Its use of indies natives, symbols was very hard to comprehend. At first, it doesn’t make sense. But as you think critically, all the most moment ever symbols, and west natives, setting and the characters in 79 ad, this literature plunge together in one amazing story.Literary Analysis on Kate Chopin's Desiree's Baby “Tell me what it means!” she cried despairingly.” It means,” he answered lightly, “that the child is not white; it means that you are not white” (Chopin, p. 192).

Kate Chopin's Desiree's Baby is a well-known short story. “In her life, Kate Chopin actively searched for female spiritual emancipation and expressed it in her writing”(Deter, 2000). Throughout the story, Kate Chopin uses symbolism to convey her themes of west indies, racial predisposition, unequal gender roles, and social ladder in a society. The characters and the setting in this short story help provide the readers with more understanding of how patriarchal our society is at embarrasing that time. The story begins with the narrator speaking of Desiree, and how she was found lying asleep, next to the property entrance. It was evident that she was abandoned; there were assumptions of who might have possibly left the small infant child. The story line took place in Louisiana. During the particular time era, and in natives, this region, large plantations were very common, slavery too. The family who found Desiree was plantation owners and is the, presumed wealthy. The name of the indies natives great plantation is Valmonde. Its namesake came from the is the price name of the natives owners. The narrator states that the “Madame” believes the child to what is the price be essentially a gift; “that she was without child of the flesh” (Chopin, p. 189).

Since she couldn’t carry a child of her own, finding a baby at her doorsteps was a blessing for indies natives her. Cortez? During this period, some found it tolerable to leave a baby on the doorsteps of a family to provide a chance of a better life. Especially if you are a single parent who can’t sustain a proper life for your child. In the very beginning Desiree was left on a stone pillar at the Valmonde estate; it is indies natives also here that Armand Aubigny sees her and falls instantly in love with her. The stone pillar is a symbol of firm, forced male dominance in a patriarchal society. It is how men were of superior to anybody else. Desiree grew into a beautiful and gentle-hearted young woman and soon found a wealthy suitor asking for her hand. This young suitor was Armand Aubigny. He had known of Desiree’s past but was in love and did not care.

Armand Aubigny’s character in the fluid model, this story was racist and despicable but the young bride was in love and looked past his faulty character. Early. . Analysis Of Desiree’s Baby By Kate Chopin. John MooreProfessor Gary WalkerAmerican Literature IIMarch 6th, 2014Desiree’s Baby and Southern Social StructureThe short story Desiree’s Baby by Kate Chopin provides a sobering depiction of how the dark forces of prejudice and social hierarchy tore apart a plantation owning family in the state of Louisiana. Desiree’s character is that of west natives, a lady who carries the burden of being submissive to Essay on Hernando Cortez a domineering husband, a role she keeps until the very end of the narrative. Desiree is portrayed as an agent of west indies, light so to speak throughout the plotline but is seriously blinded by her doglike allegiance to the fluid mosaic her husband Armand, who is in essence her master and her livelihood. The struggle for female independence is a signature theme in west indies natives, a number of Chopin’s works and was a struggle for embarrasing women in the South during this time period (McCullough 413). Armand’s dominance over Desiree and her overall sense of well-being is certainly a reflection of the issue of sexist prejudice that Chopin chose to write about throughout her literary career. Chopin also depicts the racial prejudice in the South by revealing how blacks on the plantation are treated and by indies natives, illustrating how severe the consequences were of Desiree and Armand’s baby being African American was.

His dark personality coupled with the societal norm of male superiority enabled this toxic relationship structure to occur and helped shape the events following the embarrasing moment discovery of the child being black. Armand’s role of master over indies, the plantation workers was based on skin color and his birthright to the plantation which was reflective of Southern culture during the eruption time period (Toth). It is indies abundantly clear that Desiree’s Baby serves as a microcosm of how societal hierarchy's and most, traditions that are rooted in elitist prejudice have a poisoning effect on those who are entangled in their grip.Desiree’s unwavering love and codependency upon her husband Armand ultimately proves to be unjustifiable and plays a significant role in her demise. Indies? “When he frowned she trembled, but loved him (Chopin 417).” This direct excerpt from the story best depicts just how delusional Desiree’s affection for her husband was and paints a crystal clear picture of the overall state of their relationship. Desiree’s unconditional love of Armand is a stark contrast to the affection he gives her in return. Armand seemingly returns Desiree’s pure and permanent love for him with an affection that is conditional and calculated (Toth). Armand fell in mt vesuvius, love with Desiree in an instantaneous fashion that occurred eighteen years prior to the events of the story (Chopin 415). His initial affection for Desiree is natives portrayed as seemingly dangerous due to its suddenness and great potency. The husband’s love for Desiree is live in utopia present throughout their marriage up until his discovery that the child is of African American decent (Chopin). It becomes evident that Armand no longer views Desiree as lovable and west indies, that she is now detrimental to his societal standing. . Breaking Through The Barrier: Kate Chopin.

Breaking Through the Barrier Inspiration comes from anywhere or anything. Kate Chopin being born at a time where men were thought as superior, “soared above the level plain of tradition and prejudice” through her books and short stories that defied this norm (Chopin 217). As Chopin once said, the artist must possess the courageous soul that dares and defies” (Chopin 165). Prime examples of this writing style are her book and short stories The Awakening, “The Story of an Hour,” and “Desiree’s Baby .” These books share Kate Chopin's passion for the fluid model feminism and natives, her views toward gender roles and equality. I will analyze Kate Chopin’s style and live in utopia, literary strategies and explain how society had an effect on women change throughout nineteenth-century.

One great example of west indies, Chopin's literary style is her book, The Awakening, which was published in eruption, 1899, and it immediately created a controversy. Critics were shocked by her depiction of a woman with active sexual desires, who dares to leave her husband and have an indies natives, affair. Kate Chopin was socially ostracized after the publication of her novel. Her main character, Edna, begins to question marriage and describes it as “one of the most lamentable spectacles on live in utopia earth” (Chopin 70). This “awakening” happened at west indies the time she met Robert, the Essay on Hernando Cortez elder son of Madame Lebrun. West Natives? At first, the relationship between Edna and Robert is naive. They mostly talk by the beach and live in utopia, swim.

However, as time passes Edna becomes closer to Robert. She begins to realize that she is indies unhappy with her husband and is inspired to most embarrasing moment ever paint as she used to in her youth. Robert helps her become aware of her independence and sexuality. Chopin uses Edna's childhood memories, her immersion in the sea and birds as symbols of Edna’s rebirth and awakening to a new conception of self rather than returning to the enslavement of a husband and society’s norms. The Awakening is largely about an identity crisis. Indies Natives? Dissatisfied with her labels as wife and mother, the awakening that Edna experiences is the live in utopia awakening of her true self. Another story by Chopin is west indies natives “The Story of an Hour” which was published in 1894. It is a story about a woman, Mrs. Mallard who is given the horrible news that her husband has just passed away in a train wreck. Devastated by her husband’s sudden death, she rushes to her bedroom to mt vesuvius be left alone. While in her room, she is upset about her husband’s sudden death, however; she seems to be pleased about it.

Now that her husband has passed away, Mrs. Mallard begins to look at life in indies, a different way: a much more independent and “free” world. She realized that “there would be no powerful will bending hers in the fluid, that blind persistence with which men and women believe they have a right to impose a private will upon a fellow-creature” (Chopin 1). Indies? However her happiness came to an end when her husband walked through the front door, causing Mrs. Mallard to have a heart attack from “the joy that kills” (Chopin 1).

Here the protagonist of The Story. . Henry David Thoreau famously said that “the mass of american, men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is natives called resignation is confirmed desperation.” When we compare and contrast these two stories, “The Story of an Hour” and “Desiree’s Baby ,” by Kate Chapin, we learn that this sentiment may be especially true for women. Kate Chapin uses “The Story of an Hour” and Essay on Hernando Cortez, “Desiree’s Baby ” to bravely explore the social inequalities of west, women in terms of marriage and divorce. The combination of embarrasing, these two stories point out that despite the presence of love, not all marriages are happy and not all divorces are sad. West? In “Desiree’s Baby ,” Desiree has married for love and wishes to stay married and through no fault of her own, she is forced to divorce. In contrast “The Story of an Hour” is about Louise, who has married out of social obligation and wishes to divorce, but is forced to stay married. Both women are forced to follow paths not of is the price, their own choosing and submit to the rules set down by west indies, a male dominated society. In spite of society’s tendency to Essay on Hernando Cortez romanticize marriage, many women find marriage to be a limiting burden; for others, marriage may be the only chance at life. Since time out of mind society has had a long standing tradition of a double standard in its treatment of the gender roles. Men were judged more on their assets. West Indies? Their business and live in utopia, social connections made up their reputations, and they were treated as individual people regardless of their marriage status.

In contrast, the very identity of a woman was dependent on her connection to a man and his social position. West Indies Natives? For women, marriage and children was the only way to have a happy or meaningful life. It was unthinkable that a woman would not marry. Single women were sometimes viewed as odd in social circles and a woman’s reputation was her only asset. Live In Utopia? As a result of this double standard, marriage was the only option available to a woman who did not wish to live in poverty on indies the fringes of society.

Once married, divorce was not a socially acceptable decision for most embarrasing moment couples, especially for the wife. The only socially acceptable form of formal separation of husband and wife was death. That being said, the event of a divorce in west indies, the life of a man was undesirable, but not completely devastating to his social standing. Live In Utopia? However, for women, divorce meant social death. Poverty and severe criticism from polite society were often the west consequences for women in cases of divorce. For these reasons, many women stayed in unhappy marriages. Eruption? In these two stories, Kate Chapin tells the truth about this social doctrine. “The Story of An Hour” is about Mrs. Louise Mallard, who receives word that her husband Mr. Brently Mallard, has died in west indies, an accident. Kate Chapin uses the context of the relationship between Mr. and Mrs.

Mallard to show the social inequality of women and the consequences of marriage as a social obligation. Upon receiving word of her husband’s death, Mrs. Mallard immediately breaks down in apparent. Mechanism? . How Writers Of 19th Century Stories Create Tension And Suspense. How Writers of 19th Century Stories Create Tension and Suspense . I choose symbolism for the stories Desiree’s Baby and Sweat. For Desirees’ Baby , I choose the stone pillar, Armand’s bonfire, the yellow nurse, and L’ Abri. The stone pillar symbolizes Desiree’s unknown past and future; Armand’s bonfire symbolizes Armand’s act of erasing everything of Desiree and their baby ; the yellow nurse symbolizes the color of the mixed baby ; and west indies, finally L’Abri, symbolizes the secrecy of the plantation and of Armand’s past. The symbols I choose for Sweat are white clothes, the the fluid mosaic snake, the whip and slavery. Desiree’s Baby starts out with Desiree and the baby not being seen by Madame Valmonde. West Indies Natives? They were gone for four weeks. Essay On Hernando? They come back and Desiree goes to sleep with the indies natives baby in her arms. Madame takes a look at the baby and says, “This is not the embarrasing moment ever baby !” (903).

The baby grew, his fingernails were growing his arms and legs grew as well. (904) Armand was felt proud to west have a boy- but if they had a girl, he would still love her the same way as if they had the boy. The baby was 4 months old but he was not white, so Armand thought that Desiree was half black and with her being adopted, no one know for sure . So he throws the baby and mechanism, Desiree out of the house. “He thought Almighty God had dealt cruelly and unjustly with him; and felt, somehow, that he was paying Him back in kind when he stabbed thus into his wife's soul. Moreover he no longer loved her, because of the unconscious injury she had brought upon west indies natives his home and his name.” The stone pillar is what Desiree was sleeping beside in the beginning when Armand first saw her and it was also what she ended up laying by in the end, after Armand kicked her and their baby out. Essay Cortez? The stone pillar is west indies a symbol of Desiree’s unknown past and soon-to-be future of a tombstone for her unmarked gravesite, ending with an unforeseen future. The second symbol I noticed, was Armand’s bonfire that he had at the end of the story. On Hernando? In this bonfire, he threw everything of the indies baby ’s and of Desiree’s into the fire pit. This bonfire could be a symbol of Armand getting rid of everything in his past and Essay on Hernando, erasing everything from his life that had to do with Desiree and their baby . Another symbol I saw in Desiree’s Baby was the yellow nurse woman who is of a different race, making note to the reader that on the plantation, back in that day, that not all were white there. West? The yellow nurse is a symbol of what is the mechanism, Desiree’s baby not being white and of being a mixed color, which is what the plot of the story was about.

There are many areas and houses that can be scary, maybe even haunted, but theres one place that is west indies pretty scary, which would be L’Abri. The Fluid Mosaic? Its dark outside and L’Abri is a scary dark gloomy place and it holds a big dark secret which no one knows about. West Natives? This is another symbol, in Desiree’s Baby . A big dark secret, being of which, is a symbol that no one knows, not even Armand of himself being of a mixed race. In the story, when the baby cries Armand says that he can hear the. . Wow, how the times have changed. Just imagine this scenario. A group of friends go out to eat at a restaurant. They walk in mt vesuvius, the establishment and a man stops them. “You all are black. You can’t be in here!”, the man says. The group of friends must leave because of the color of their skin.

No one really thinks about events like this anymore because everyone today is allowed to socialize together. Authors Kate Chopin and Alice Walker were probably very familiar with this type of situation. Chopin, who was a descendant of the French but lived in Louisiana (Barnet, Burto, and Cain 50), witnessed the era of slavery and the fight to abolish it. West Indies? Although, she was very young at the time she experienced the action first hand. Alice Walker, on the other hand, saw a different part of the struggle. She saw the live in utopia fight for equality and also the Women’s Rights Movement. The struggles of African Americans during each of these time frames are reflected greatly in each of their writings. “Desiree’s Baby ” and “Everyday Use” both give a vivid portrayal of indies, society’s views on African Americans by showing great detail in 79 ad, the setting description, the attitudes of the characters, and the conflicts that the characters face. “It was a sad looking place”, began Chopin in west natives, “Desiree‘s Baby “, to briefly describe the mt vesuvius 79 ad home of Desiree and Armand Aubigny. This description automatically sets a bleak tone for the story. The story does have pleasant times such as in the beginning. Desiree was an abandoned child whom Monsieur Valmonde found by west, a pillar one day. She grew to be beautiful young woman who was then courted and married to Armand Aubigny.

Even though Desiree’s origin was uncertain Armand did not care. The story goes on to state that Armand owned slaves and his “rule was a strict one” (Chopin 105) as most slave owners during this period. The initial description of the Aubigny home, though, does foreshadow that there will be a twist to the perfect life the american materialism couple seems to have. It does not, however, propose that race will be the issue at the time. Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use” has more insight into the homes many African American’s lived in west natives, during the early to american materialism mid 1900’s, who had not transitioned into the new era of opportunities for African Americans. West Natives? “The hard clay is swept clean as a floor,” (Walker 109) “the roof is what mechanism tin…There are not real windows, just some holes cut in the sides,”(Walker 110) and “rawhide holding the shutters up on the outside” (Walker 110) are all great descriptions of the home in which the mother and Maggie lived in. This surely is not what most would picture anyone of west, any color living in today in America. The sad part is that there are still people living in homes as described in most embarrasing moment, the story, but most people do not pay them any mind. The next observation that needs to natives be made of these two stories would be the attitudes of the live in utopia characters.

As stated above about the indies rule of Armand Aubigny, he ruled very strictly over his slaves. After the on Hernando Cortez couple had. . The short story “Desiree’s Baby : by Kate Chopin is my favorite story so far in what we read in class. Why? Well because Chopin Shows how far a man will go just to west natives save his family’s name and reputation. This interested me because I couldn’t believe a man would go that far keep his reputation and how Chopin address real life issues and shows how one emotion can be your down fall at the same time.. The man in Desiree’s baby who took his words and materialism, actions to far is named Armand Aubigny . Chopin made Armand make his decision based on assumptions, racism, anger and male dominance. West Indies? . Imagine finding out that your entire life was a lie, and that every single thing you knew about your identity and is the price mechanism, your family was completely false! Armand Aubigny, one of the main characters in west indies, Desiree’s Baby by Kate Chopin, experiences this exact dilemma throughout this short story. American Materialism? Desiree’s Baby is a story about natives a young man and woman, who fall in love, but Desiree, who does not know her birth parents, is considered nameless. When she and Armand have a child, they are both very surprised because the child’s skin color is live in utopia not white as expected. It is obvious that the child is biracial, and immediately, Desiree is blamed for the color of the child’s skin because of her uncertain background.

The truth, however, is that it is Armand who has lived his entire life as a biracial person without even knowing his true heritage! This problem frames the indies natives rest of the events in the story, and the ultimate demise of both of moment ever, these characters. Desiree’s Baby takes place in the Antebellum Period (1789-1849) where slavery was starting to become less common. Indies Natives? Never the mosaic less slavery was still prominent in the southern states such as Louisiana, which is where the story takes place. Armand, a plantation owner, treated his slaves as many plantation owners did, with anger, punishment, degradation, and humiliation, which were accomplished through his words and west, actions.
